1:48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII landing flaps is an Eduard photo-etched set with landing flaps for a model of the Spitfire. It is an accessory for a kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard focused on the landing flaps of a model of the Spitfire Mk.XII in 1:48 scale. The metal parts make it possible to show the flaps in the lowered position, a detail that injection-molded plastic manages only with difficulty because of the thickness of its walls. Unlike a full photo-etched set, which covers the interior and the exterior alike, this item concentrates on one particular assembly of the airframe. The plastic kit is not included in the package.
The Spitfire had pneumatically operated landing flaps with only two positions - retracted or fully extended. On the ground the machines therefore usually stood with the flaps retracted, and lowered flaps belonged to the landing and takeoff regime. The Mk.XII version was the first production variant with a Griffon engine, intended for combat at low altitudes; most machines had clipped wingtips. It was used over the English Channel against low-flying targets.
The flap bay has to be sanded or cut open in the plastic, so reckon with reworking the wing. Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel on a hard support and make the folds in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat pliers. Metal is glued with super glue, and load-bearing joints with epoxy. Degrease the sheet before painting and use a primer. Consider whether you want the flaps lowered - on an aircraft standing on the ground for a longer time it is not the typical state.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model on its own. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
