A set of precisely cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the American TBM-3 Avenger carrier-based torpedo bomber in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or a model - it is an accessory that makes it easier to paint the extensive glazing and other areas cleanly. The masks are applied directly to the parts, so the complex framing of the long greenhouse canopy and of the dorsal gun turret gains sharp straight edges with no laborious cutting of adhesive tape. Sets of this type usually also hold circular masks for the wheel hubs.
The Avenger was an American carrier-based torpedo bomber of the Second World War; the TBM version was built under license by the car maker General Motors to the original Grumman design. It was a robust three-seat aircraft with a spacious bomb bay, a long glazed cockpit and a dorsal gun turret, and it became the main torpedo aircraft of the US Navy in the Pacific. It is exactly that extensive glazing that makes masks an especially useful accessory on this type.
Carefully lift the mask off the backing with tweezers or the tip of a knife and place it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down carefully so that no paint creeps under them. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush, and lift the mask before the coat has hardened completely. On strongly curved shapes it helps to back the edge with liquid mask.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
