A set of precisely cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the two-seat Lockheed TF-104G Starfighter jet in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or a model — it is an accessory that makes it easy to paint the cockpit glazing and other small areas cleanly. Because this is the two-seat version, the masks cover the framing of both cockpits; they are stuck straight onto the parts and so gain sharp, straight edges without laborious cutting of adhesive tape. Sets of this kind usually also contain circular masks for the wheel rims.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was an American supersonic fighter with an exceptionally thin, short wing, nicknamed for its look as a missile with a man in it. The TF-104G version is the two-seat training form of the export G type, used by a number of NATO countries to train pilots. Two cockpits in tandem mean more glazing frames, and that is where masks save the most work.
Lift the mask carefully off the backing with tweezers or the tip of a knife and lay it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down carefully so that paint cannot creep under them. Lay the paint on in thin layers, ideally with an airbrush, and pull the mask off before the layer has fully hardened. On strongly curved shapes it helps to seal the edge with masking fluid.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
