Die-cut self-adhesive masks for the cockpit glazing of the two-seat Tornado IDS in 1:48 scale. They cover the outer and the inner side of the canopy and are cut to the shapes of the kit by the brand Hobby Boss.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tornado is the fruit of three-way cooperation between Britain, Germany and Italy. The prototype first left the ground in August 1974 and the IDS form, that is the machine built for interdiction and strikes against ground targets, reached the front-line squadrons at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. Its variable-geometry wing let it fly low and very fast below the radar horizon, which was exactly the task European air forces wanted from it. The crew consists of a pilot and a navigator seated one behind the other under a long canopy with strikingly heavy framing.
The parts are die-cut into self-adhesive film and laid out to the shapes of one particular kit. Inside you will find two sets of covering: one for the outer surface of the canopy and the windscreen, the other for the inner side of the same glazing. On a cockpit for two the inner covering pays off, because the frames are visible through the clear part from inside as well and only paint sprayed inside gives the crew station depth.
The parts are lifted from the backing with tweezers, laid on degreased glazing dry and seated into the corners of the frames with pressure. Spraying is done in thin coats, so that paint does not run under the edge of the film. The covering is taken off while the finish is still fresh, and the edges then stay sharp. Offcuts of the material will serve for covering the transition between the cockpit and the spine of the fuselage.
Neither the plastic model nor the clear part is in the package. The set deals with covering the glazed areas exclusively, not with national insignia or metal gun muzzles.
