The Panavia Tornado IDS is a two-seat combat aircraft with a variable geometry wing, created in a joint European program of Britain, Germany and Italy. The abbreviation IDS marks the strike and reconnaissance machine meant for attacks on ground targets, and the German examples flew with the Luftwaffe and with the German naval aviation. The crew consists of the pilot and the weapon systems officer, each with his own cockpit with different panels, so the interior of this type is busier than that of single-seat aircraft.
The set brings colored three-dimensional decals on decal paper with three-dimensional relief. They serve to finish both cockpits, replace the hand painting of the instrument panels and side consoles and bring crisp labels that cannot be created with a brush. They are shaped for the parts of the kit in 1:48 scale.
Paint the surface in the cockpit first, let it dry thoroughly and degrease it, as the parts hold best on a smooth, clean surface. The exact application procedure is in the manufacturer's instructions and it is worth following it, as the individual Quinta ranges differ in this. Separate the parts with a sharp knife just before use and settle them with tweezers. Always try the assembled interior dry before you glue the fuselage together for good. The sheet is dipped briefly in lukewarm water, the part is slid off the backing paper and holds on gloss varnish; it has no adhesive layer of its own and a decal softener is not to be used.
The set suits a modeler who builds the Tornado with open cockpits and wants the interior finished without lengthy painting of small instruments. The package contains decals, and the kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
