The U-2R is an enlarged version of the American high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft U-2. Its long slender wing gives it qualities close to a glider and allows long flight at great altitudes, from where the aircraft watches a target without having to come close to it. The machine is known by the nickname Dragon Lady.
The templates are cut in advance to the shape of the individual areas, so measuring out and laborious cutting of strips of adhesive tape fall away. You stick a template onto the model, spray over it and lift it off once the paint has dried. The edge of the paint then stays sharp and straight even where tape would be hard to bend. Which areas the set covers is given in the instructions from the manufacturer.
The surface of the model has to be clean, dry and degreased. Lift a mask off with tweezers, lay it in place and press it down with a stick or a toothpick, with particular care all the way around, where paint could run underneath. Spray in thin coats and lift the mask off as soon as the paint has dried, not after several days.
The set saves time for anyone building this aircraft in 1:48 scale who does not want to spend a whole evening on masking the glazing. Unless stated otherwise, the model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery.
