An armament accessory from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, from the Brassin resin range, for 1:48 scale. Unlike photo-etched sets, which bring flat brass parts, and unlike masks, which only help with painting, these are three-dimensional castings with fine surface detail. The subject of the set is American aerial bombs of the 1000-pound weight class, that is roughly 454 kilograms. The set is not an aircraft model and not a kit - the bombs are hung under a finished model or used in a diorama.
Bombs supplied in kits are usually split into two halves, so after gluing a seam is left on the casing that has to be filled and sanded back. A rounded shape is very hard to sand and easily goes wavy. Resin bombs are usually cast in one piece, or split outside the visible surface, so that problem falls away. At the same time they carry crisper engraving, legible shackles and a tail cone that cannot be molded in plastic.
Wash the castings first in warm water with detergent so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, not with pliers. Do not breathe the dust from sanding resin. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; plastic cement has no effect on resin. Spray a primer and only then the paint. Paint the bombs and add any markings separately, before you hang them under the wing - once they are under a finished model a brush can hardly reach them.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
