A decal sheet in 1:48 scale with markings for machines of the US Air Force. It serves as a replacement for or a supplement to the markings enclosed with a kit and lets the modeler finish a model in a form other than the one the box offers. The particular make-up of the sheet is given in the instructions in the package.
Machines of the US Air Force wear an established set of features that recurs on a model every time: the national insignia in the form of a star with bars on both sides, the serial number on the vertical tail, the code and designation of the unit and with them a great many small technical legends around the filler caps, the access panels and the rescue features. It is precisely those small things that make the biggest difference on a finished model, because they break up a uniform area of color and give the surface a sense of scale.
The surface has to be smooth and glossy, otherwise air will be trapped under the film and the decal will go matte. Cut the feature out as closely as possible, soak it and let it rest for a while, until it starts to slide freely on the paper. Move it into place along with a little water underneath, line it up and blot the excess water away with a soft cloth from the center to the edges. Over riveting and curved transitions a decal softener helps. Once it is dry, spray the model with varnish to the sheen you want, so that the edges of the decals disappear.
