An injection-molded plastic kit of the Douglas SBD-1 Dauntless carrier dive bomber in 1:48 scale from Academy. The model offers fine panel lines and riveting, a well worked-out cockpit interior and landing gear, a bomb and a machine gun. The dive brakes can be built closed or fully deployed. Photo-etched parts and masking tapes for the clear parts are in the box as well.
The SBD-1 was the first production version of the famous Dauntless, and the US Marine Corps was the first to take it over. The type became famous above all at the Battle of Midway, where the dive bombers decided the fate of the Japanese aircraft carriers. The SBD-1 version represents the early, prewar form of the machine.
Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement and sand the joints. A base coat of primer and an airbrush are recommended before spraying. Finish the interior and the landing gear before closing the fuselage. Prewar schemes tend to be colorful - careful masking pays off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
