A photo-etched accessory in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. It serves to improve the cockpit of a plastic Vampire model and belongs to the smaller, mostly pre-painted range - its weight lies on the instrument panel, the side consoles and the restraint belts. Full photo-etched sets for the same scale are considerably more extensive and take in exterior parts as well; this item is the smaller version for a modeler whose interest is mainly the cockpit.
The de Havilland Vampire was a British single-engine jet fighter with a short fuselage, a centrifugal jet engine and a characteristic twin-boom tail layout. The F.3 version received reworked tail surfaces and a greater fuel load, which increased its range. The cockpit shows well on the model, because the canopy is large and clear - an investment in the interior pays back more here than on aircraft with a narrow, deeply set cockpit.
Sand the molded raised instruments on the kit panel flat with abrasive paper before gluing the photo-etch on, otherwise the part will not seat. It is glued with cyanoacrylate applied on the tip of a wire; a single drop from the tube can flood a pre-painted part and ruin it. Make the bends with a bending tool or between two blades in one pass - the color layer will not stand being straightened repeatedly. The instrument panel looks best when a drop of gloss clear is placed into the molded dials to imitate the glass of the gauges.
An accessory to a plastic model, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
