Injection-molded plastic kit of the early British de Havilland Vampire FB.Mk.5 jet fighter in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. The model has finely engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit with glazing and the characteristic twin-boom layout. The large 1:48 format brings out the compact shape of this pioneering jet machine.
The Vampire was one of the first British jet fighters, the second type of its kind taken into service with the Royal Air Force after the Gloster Meteor. The FB.5 version was a fighter-bomber with a short pilot nacelle and twin tail booms. It came too late to be used in the Second World War, but it served with front-line RAF squadrons and with other countries into the 1950s, and as a trainer for longer still.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin cement for plastic. Assemble and paint the cockpit first, then close up the nacelle; mask the glazing and paint the frames separately. Apply a primer before painting. Glue the tail booms accurately so that the geometry is right. Metallic paints applied at the very end suit a natural metal finish; pick the panel lines out with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
