An injection-molded plastic model of the British jet fighter-bomber de Havilland Vampire FB.9 in 1:48 scale from the Trumpeter brand. The model captures the characteristic twin-boom layout of the airframe with its short fuselage nacelle and single-seat cockpit. The box offers a finely engraved surface, clear parts for the cockpit glazing and decals for several RAF machines.
After the Gloster Meteor, the Vampire was only the second jet machine brought into service with the Royal Air Force. It was powered by a de Havilland Goblin centrifugal-flow turbojet housed in the nacelle between two tail booms. The FB.9 version was a fighter-bomber adapted for service in hot regions - the cockpit received a cooling, or air-conditioning, unit, which set it apart from the otherwise closely related FB.5 version. It was used in the Middle East and the Far East among other places.
Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic, and align, fill and sand the joints of the nacelle and the tail booms carefully. It pays to paint and shade the cockpit before closing the fuselage. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush in thin coats; metal as well as camouflage surfaces come to life with fine accentuation of the panels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
