A set of masks for covering the glazing of a model while spraying. The words one-sided refer to masks for one side of the glazing, and express fit to pieces cut to shape that are laid straight into place. Cutting from self-adhesive film and building the frames up from strips of tape are therefore done away with, which on a helicopter with a large glazed area is work for a whole evening. According to the name the set is sized for the Airfix kit.
The Sea King is a heavy helicopter intended for service over the sea. The underside of the fuselage is shaped like a boat hull, it carries sponsons at the sides into which the landing gear retracts, and both the rotor blades and the tail fold, so that the machine takes up as little room on deck as possible. The designations HAS.1, HAS.5 and HU.5 distinguish the service versions on which the set can, according to its name, be used. One set covers all three, so when buying you do not have to work out which of them you are building.
Stick the masks onto clean and degreased glazing before spraying and press the edges down with a toothpick, so that paint cannot run under them. Apply the paint in thin coats, as one heavy coat tears during removal and peels away with the mask. Once dry, lift the mask off with tweezers, pulling at a shallow angle along the surface rather than straight upwards. The inner side of the glazing is not covered; if you want to paint the frames from the inside as well, expect to work out your own procedure.
The masking set is supplied on its own. The kit of the helicopter, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
