A Soviet fighter for every task

The Yak-9 came about by simplifying and lightening the earlier design and became the most numerous Soviet fighter of the war. It was built in many forms: with long range for escort work, with a large-caliber cannon for fighting armor, and in a late version with an all-metal wing and a more powerful engine. Its pilots wrote dedications and slogans on the fuselages which are today among the most rewarding subjects for modelers.

Eleven subjects on one sheet

The offering is unusually wide and it includes the D, M, P, T, U and UT versions. Among the subjects are the machine of Georgy Bayevsky of the fifth guards regiment from Germany in March 1945, an aircraft with the inscription Moskva from a regiment based at Khimki, a pair of naval aviation machines from the Black Sea in the spring of 1944, an aircraft with the inscription Pobeda in which a squadron commander flew over Prague in May 1945, and also a captured North Korean Yak-9P that American units secured at a captured Korean airfield.

How to handle such a number

Eleven subjects mean that the sheet pays off even for several builds one after another. The tactical numbers on Soviet machines are large and they often reach across the fuselage stiffener, so settle them on a wet base and press the excess out from the center. White and red inscriptions over green paint want an undercoat beneath them, otherwise they show through.

Set contents

The package consists of a printed sheet. The model, paints and varnish are not in it. Anyone building a series of Soviet fighters will appreciate that a single envelope covers several regiments at once, both ends of the war and postwar service too.
