Why the feeder makes such a difference

The .50 caliber corresponds to the 12.7x99 mm round, one of the most widespread heavy machine gun cartridges of Western armies, and it went with Browning machine guns on the turrets and mounts of vehicles. The feeder leads the belt from the box to the breech, and it is exactly what holds the whole assembly together visually: without it the belt looks as though it ended in mid-air, and the eye notices that sooner than any other detail.

Seating and color separation

First try the route from the box to the weapon dry, and only then fix anything. A cold dark tone suits the steel links, while a warmer shade suits the cases, and the contrast between them makes most of the final impression. Once dry, fine weathering helps, darkening the recesses and stopping the whole belt from floating in one flat color. On a dark base both show to best advantage.
