The second sheet of markings for the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch in 1:48 scale offers eight machines. Beside wartime aircraft it includes a Czechoslovak Cap of the police aviation and a Finnish example from 1950.
Responsibility details are not available.
A design from 1936 ought to have been finished after May 1945, but the opposite was true. The machines left on airfields in Central Europe were quickly taken over by the new states, which flew them well into the 1950s. In Czechoslovakia the type was given its own name, the Czech name Cap, meaning stork, and the designation K-62, and it was used by Bezpecnostni letectvo, the police aviation.
The sheet contains aircraft of the short-range reconnaissance squadrons 2.(H)/21 from the summer of 1941, 3.(H)/31 from Poland in 1941 and 6.(H)/31 from the first half of the same year, then a machine of 3./JG 27 from Libya in 1942 and an aircraft of the staff flight of III. Gruppe, JG 54, from Russia in January 1941. Alongside them come an example used by the American General Eisenhower, the Czechoslovak K-62 mentioned above and a Finnish Fi 156K-1 from the Malmi base near Helsinki in 1950.
The Czechoslovak item is the rarest of the whole selection. Postwar machines of home services appear on decal sheets only seldom, and this one also carried a civilian-looking finish that differs markedly from German camouflage schemes. Anyone who builds hardware used at home therefore has a rare opportunity.
It is best to lay the markings on the fuselage skin only once the whole airframe has been varnished and before the matte overcoat is applied. The thin carrier film then disappears under a single uniform layer.
