A basic set of masking stencils of kabuki paper for the model of the Mi-24A attack helicopter in 1:48 scale, cut for Trumpeter kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mi-24 is a Soviet attack helicopter that combined an attack machine with room to land a few troops. The whole family carries the name Hind in the West. Under the stub wings the machine could carry armament, and in fast flight the wings also took some of the load off the fuselage. The Mi-24A rendition belongs to the early machines of the family: on them the cabin glazing is arranged as a continuous greenhouse with large panes, and only the later versions received separate crew canopies one behind the other. It is exactly that early glazing that gives the most work when building a model.
The stencils are cut from thin kabuki paper, which adapts to the curves of the glazing and leaves a sharp edge once removed. The set is the basic rendition and is cut for Trumpeter kits in 1:48 scale, so the shapes fit without lengthy trimming. The range of masked areas is given in the enclosed instructions.
Stick the stencils onto a clean, degreased surface before spraying. Press the edges down carefully, above all where the glazing runs into the frame. Apply the paint in thin coats and spray at a right angle to the edge of the mask so that it does not get underneath. Take the masks off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch; after a longer time they hold less well and may pull the edge of the finish with them. Leave the glazing free of fingerprints beforehand, as grease under a mask only shows up after spraying.
For modelers who are building the Mi-24 in 1:48 scale and want the glazing frames sharp. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
