The set offers six ammunition cans with the lid closed, rendered in the early wartime form that belonged with the Browning M2 heavy machine gun. Closed pieces suit everywhere that order and readiness are to be shown: stacked in a truck bed, strapped to a fender or lined up in a pile beside a position. Against the set with the hinged lid open it is the simpler variant to use.
A sheet metal can protected the ammunition belt against damp and damage and at the same time could be hung quickly on the mount. It was made in enormous numbers and accompanied the weapon everywhere it was in service; that is why you will see it in period photographs in the rear areas and on vehicles alike. For a modeler it is one of those accessories that take up almost no space themselves but give a finished scene scale and life.
Closed cans can be stacked, so they suit piles. Leave small irregularities between them, because a tidy row looks lifeless. Work the paint from a dark base toward the main shade and pick the edges out with light rubbing. Do the lettering on the sides with a fine brush or a decal from another sheet, but always only suggested. Super glue handles the gluing; on horizontal surfaces a thicker version that will not run helps.
