About product

The British QF 75 mm barrel and Besa machine gun tips, 1:72 scale (MASTER)

It is not a kit but a metal detail accessory from the Polish manufacturer MASTER. The set replaces the plastic barrel of the British QF 75 mm gun and adds the tips of the barrels of the Besa machine guns. It is intended for models of the Centaur Mk.III, Cromwell Mk.IV and Mk.VII and Churchill Mk.VI and Mk.VII tanks in 1:72 scale.

The real subject

The QF 75 mm gun came about by reworking an older British tank weapon so that it could fire the American 75 mm ammunition range. British tanks thereby gained an effective high-explosive round, which they had previously lacked against unarmored targets. The secondary armament was the Besa machine gun of 7.92 mm caliber, the British licensed version of a Czechoslovak design, used in British armored vehicles throughout the war.

Why a metal barrel

In 1:72 scale a plastic barrel is thin, often slightly bent and almost always carries a parting line that cannot be sanded off a cylindrical surface without losing the shape. A turned barrel is straight, concentric and has a real bore, so you do not have to drill the muzzle out. The same advantage applies to the small machine gun tips, where drilling in this scale would be practically impossible.

Building and painting tips

Drill the hole in the gun mantlet exactly on the axis, first marking the center with a needle. Bond the barrel with super glue or epoxy and check that it points straight, best of all by looking from above and from behind. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and use a primer for metal. Paint it together with the vehicle so that the shade matches, and pick the muzzle out with a dark wash once dry. Fit the parts once the spraying is finished, or you will bend them while masking.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of British armored vehicles in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers who dislike the seam and the bend of a plastic barrel
  • Anyone interested in open muzzles with no drilling
  • Competition builders of small scales

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a kit of the vehicle. Glue, paints and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The Centaur Mk.III, the Cromwell Mk.IV and Mk.VII and the Churchill Mk.VI and Mk.VII in 1:72 scale. The seating hole usually has to be adjusted slightly to suit a particular kit.

It is not. The 95 mm howitzer is a different weapon with a different barrel and the manufacturer lists it as a separate set.

No, a turned barrel has the bore from the factory. The only thing you will drill is the hole in the gun mantlet on the model.
