1:48 Spitfire Mk.II is a set of pre-cut Eduard masking templates for covering the glazing and other areas while spraying a model of the British fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The pre-cut templates cover the cockpit glazing and the places that are to stay transparent or in another color after spraying. The shapes are die-cut in advance, so nothing has to be measured out or cut on the model. The set goes with a plastic model of the aircraft, which is obtained separately. It is made by Eduard, a Czech brand from Obrnice near Most.
The Mk.II version followed on from the first production Spitfires and was given a Rolls-Royce Merlin XII engine. It reached RAF squadrons from 1940 and flew in the closing stage of the Battle of Britain and on later sweeps over the English Channel. The cockpit canopy of this type has broken-up framing, and an exactly cut mask saves a great deal of fiddly work.
Lift the templates with pointed tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press them home with a toothpick, so that the edge seats along its whole length. Spray the paint in several thin coats; a heavy coat likes to tear when the mask is lifted. Take the masks off while the surface is still fresh, not after the finish has fully cured. Wipe any remaining adhesive off with a cotton swab moistened in alcohol.
The package holds only masking templates. The aircraft, the paints and the glue are supplied separately.
