Photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 scale for a kit of the British Westland Lysander liaison aircraft in the Mk.I and Mk.III versions.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Westland Lysander was a British liaison and observation aircraft with a high-set wing, fixed landing gear in aerodynamic fairings and a glazed cabin. Automatic slats and flaps gave it a short takeoff and landing, so it could work from small, unprepared strips. That is precisely why Lysanders became famous for their night flights over occupied Europe. The Mk.I and Mk.III versions differed mainly in their powerplant and in details of equipment.
A fret of photo-etched parts of thin metal sheet, which complete a kit of this type in 1:48 scale. Photo-etching usually deals with features where a plastic part is too thick or too softly shaped. The exact listing of the parts and their placement on the model is in the manufacturer's instructions.
Lay the fret on a hard surface and cut the parts off with a sharp blade right at the attachment; never snap them out. Sand the remaining stub. Straight bends are best made over a bending tool; on small parts pliers with smooth jaws will serve. The metal is bonded with super glue, which you should apply in a tiny amount onto the plastic, not onto the photo-etched part. Before painting, degrease the sheet and lay down a primer, otherwise the shade will be wiped off at a touch. Put the separated parts on a light surface or into a shallow dish; small pieces of metal are easily lost on a dark desk.
It suits a modeler who wants crisp, thin detail on the Lysander and is not afraid of working with tweezers. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
