The set 1:48 F-14D Tomcat SPACE from Eduard brings three-dimensionally printed decals for the cockpit of the last production version of the famous carrier fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The SPACE line builds on decal paper with printed relief: the instruments, panels and side consoles are thus not merely painted but have noticeable depth. This set belongs to the Grumman F-14D Tomcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale and deals with the most demanding part of every build, the inside of the two-seat cockpit.
The individual elements are lifted with tweezers off the moistened backing paper, the sheet not being immersed in water in the process, and are settled with white PVA glue onto a degreased, smoothly clear-coated surface. It pays to work section by section and to let every piece dry thoroughly, so that the relief does not crack. The Tomcat has a really generously glazed cockpit, so the care repays itself many times over.
The D version closed the development line of the Tomcats. Against the older machines it was given more powerful General Electric powerplants, digital avionics and, under the nose, a pair of sensor heads for passive tracking of a target. What stayed was the variable-sweep wing, the crew of two and the ability to operate from the deck of an aircraft carrier. The US Navy withdrew the last machines in 2006, which ended the era of one of the most characteristic aircraft of the Cold War.
The plastic basis and consumable modeling chemicals are not part of this item.
