The Zero was among the best-known Japanese carrier fighters of the Second World War, and the A6M5 version is its later form with shortened wings. The qualifier Nakajima refers to which works the airframe came from; the type was built at two places and the production runs differed in detail.
Elements of the SPACE line for the cockpit of a model in 1:48 scale, supplied with printed color and raised relief on a backing paper. They take the place of the laborious painting of dials and small controls by hand, which at this scale are at the limit of what can be managed with a brush. Which elements the set carries and where they are fitted is described in the manufacturer's instructions.
The elements have no adhesive layer of their own and the whole part is not immersed in water. Only the backing paper under the element is moistened, best of all with a damp sponge with a drop of detergent. Then lift the element with the tip of a pair of tweezers and fix it in place with white PVA glue; the manufacturer does not recommend super glue. A decal softener does not belong with these elements, as the chemicals would attack the printed layer. Wash the surface of the model beforehand, degrease it and let it dry thoroughly; on a greasy base an element will not hold. Set the element in place and line the position up at your leisure. Only then press it down with a soft cotton swab, on broken surfaces from the middle toward the edges. Keep the model lying on the desk; working in the hand leads to squashing the edges. Plan the work so that the cockpit is finished before you glue the fuselage halves together.
It will be appreciated by a modeler who does not fancy painting the smallest instruments and yet wants a full cockpit under the canopy. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
