An injection-molded plastic kit of the giant American transport prototype Convair XC-99 in 1:144 scale from Roden. It is a new tooling; even in this small scale the finished model is respectably large, thanks to the dimensions of the real subject — its length is over 39 cm. The kit will be appreciated by collectors of the unusual giants of aviation history.
The Convair XC-99 was an experimental heavy transport aircraft derived from the strategic bomber B-36 Peacemaker; it shared with it the giant wing with six engines in a pusher arrangement. It first flew in 1947 and remained the only example built — it served as a test and transport machine of the US Air Force until roughly the end of the 1950s. To this day it is among the largest piston-engined aircraft ever to fly.
Align the large fuselage and wing areas carefully and sand the seams — with natural metal every irregularity shows. Apply a primer; metallic paints or special metal finishes capture a polished aluminum surface well (varying the shades of the panels brings the area to life). Mask the cockpit. Finish the six engine nacelles and the landing gear separately. Bring out the panel lines gently with a dark wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
