GRU-7A ejection seats for the F-14A/B

A set of two GRU-7A ejection seats in 1:48 scale, intended for the late version of the F-14A/B fighter aircraft. The pair matches the manning of the cockpit: in the Tomcat the pilot and the weapon systems operator sit one behind the other, each in a seat of his own.

Why change the seats

On a model with an open cockpit the seat is the most conspicuous internal part. It is seen from above, from the side and from behind, and it is precisely by the seats that the viewer can tell how much care a model has had. The parts from kits tend to be simplified, with soft edges and without the articulation of the real structure, which is made up of the headrest section, the seat and back sections and the controls. Replacement seats are therefore among the accessories with the best ratio between the work put in and the visible result.

Building and painting

• The parts are not polystyrene and are joined with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for polystyrene has no effect on them.
• Before painting, wash them in soapy water and let them dry thoroughly.
• Cut the surplus material and the marks from production away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the surface.
• Try the seats in the cockpit dry before the fuselage is glued together, above all their width and height against the edges.
• Obtain the seat belts separately, for example in photo-etch or in formed foil; without them a seat looks empty.
• Paint part by part while they are still accessible, and check the color scheme against the references for the machine you have chosen.
• Glue the seats into the cockpit only at the end, once it is painted and washed.

Terms of supply

Two seats are supplied; the seat belts are not part of the set. A kit of the aircraft, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
