1:32 Spitfire Mk.VIII, a single-sided die-cut mask for the Tamiya kit covers the cockpit glazing while the paint is sprayed.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set brings pre-cut self-adhesive masks cut to the shape of the glazing of the large Tamiya Spitfire Mk.VIII. You only lift the parts off the backing film, lay them on the glass and press them down, so both tracing and cutting tape by hand fall away. The single-sided designation means that the set covers the outer face of the glazing.
The Mk.VIII was the proper production answer to the Merlin 60 series engines with a two-stage supercharger, whereas the more famous Mk.IX came about as a quick adaptation of an older airframe. The Mk.VIII received a strengthened fuselage, a retractable tailwheel and additional fuel in the leading edge of the wing. Most of the machines went to the Mediterranean, to Burma and to Australian squadrons in the Pacific, where the longer range was most useful.
Free the glass of grease and fingerprints before sticking them down. Press the edges of the masks with a toothpick or the blunt tip of a pair of tweezers so that paint does not creep under them, and spray in thin coats. It is a good idea to spray the cockpit frame in the interior shade first and only then in the exterior finish. Take the masks off while the varnish is still fresh, otherwise they grow brittle and peel away less easily. Any adhesive residue after removal comes off with a cotton swab moistened in water.
