1:144 Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 Flying Tigers over China Part I is a decal sheet from the Czech brand AML with the markings of the fighters of the American Volunteer Group over China.
Responsibility details are not available.
The sheet from the brand AML offers markings for the machines of the American Volunteer Group, which fought under the Chinese flag over the south of China and over Burma. It is a separate printed sheet for the small 1:144 scale.
The group was pushed through in the spring of 1941 by Claire Lee Chennault, a former American flying instructor in the service of the Chinese government. He drew both pilots and mechanics from the ranks of the navy, the marines and the army air corps. The hardware came from a hundred Hawk 81-A2 machines diverted from a British order; the aircraft were assembled in Burma and the crews gathered at the field airstrip at Toungoo. The Americans took the shark mouth on the nose from a photograph of a British Tomahawk committed in North Africa. The machine itself was not among the most agile fighters of its day, but it could take a hit and in the dive it outdid almost everything that stood against it at the time.
The motifs seat best on a smooth gloss surface; matte varnishes create silvered edges under them. At such a small scale it pays to transfer the markings one at a time and to hold them with a damp brush. Apply the decal softener only once the motif is exactly in place.
This sheet does not claim to replace the aircraft, the paints or the varnish.
