1:16 British tropical pith helmet is a set of two resin British tropical helmets for figures in 1:16 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pair of castings of the British tropical helmet will complete a figure in the large 1:16 scale. The set deals with the headdress itself; the rest of the figure stays up to the modeler.
The tropical helmet came about from the need to protect the head of a European soldier from direct sun in the overseas possessions. A shell of pressed cork or pith covered with cloth holds its shape, is very light, and between the body of the helmet and the head there remains a layer of air that works as insulation. Characteristic are the wide brim, which falls lower over the nape than at the front, and the ventilation button at the top. The British wore it from the end of the nineteenth century through both world wars until the 1950s, and it became a symbol of service in the Middle East, in India and in North Africa.
Light sand and khaki tones come across flat, so fine shading does the helmet good: a darker shade into the shadow under the brim and, conversely, a lightened top. The cloth covering layer can be suggested with a very fine texture in the varnish. Do not forget the unit badge or the colored band above the brim; with British units that was a usual distinguishing element.
The castings come without any finish; paints are not included.
