Masks for the markings of the commander's F-4B Phantom II of the naval squadron VF-111 Sundowners in 1:48 scale. Three sheets carry the sunburst pattern of the fin as well as the accompanying insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
Sunburst stripes on the vertical tail are among the best-known American naval finishes there are. Drawing them accurately on a model means cutting dozens of wedges that have to converge on a single point. This set brings a ready-made solution on three sheets of thin masking tape and is aimed at one specific machine: the aircraft with fuselage number 200.
On the ordinary machines of the unit the rays were a single color. The commander's Phantom had one of the rays done in several colors, which was a mark of belonging to the command of the carrier air wing. It is exactly this detail that makes the machine a favorite subject and at the same time the reason why a separate set is worth having for it.
The fighter squadron VF-111 carried the nickname Sundowners and its badge with a rising sun referred to the fighting in the Pacific in the Second World War. In the F-4B Phantom II version it flew from the decks of aircraft carriers in the period of the Vietnam War, and its colorfully treated fins became the recognition mark of the whole unit. Sprayed markings have the advantage over decals that they leave no visible film on the curved surface of the fin.
It is sold as a standalone accessory without paints.
