An armored vehicle usually carries its tow cable strapped to a fender or to the side of the hull, and on a model it is one of the most conspicuous small items. In a kit it is usually made of plastic and holds the shape of a stiff arch that has neither the right sag nor the structure of braided wire. A metal cable removes that weakness: its surface has the real lay of the strands and the cable settles where you put it instead of holding the shape of the mold.
The cable is one of the few parts of an armored vehicle that the viewer sees against the light and in profile. The sag and the way the cable leans on its bracket give the material away at once. A metal cable also takes finishing well: a dark wash stays in the hollows between the strands and a light pass with a metallic shade pulls out the edges. The result is a detail that looks heavy on a finished model, not like a plastic wire.
The tow cable is supplied as an accessory to a kit. The model, the paints and the glue do not belong to it, unless stated otherwise. Check the length, the diameter and the contents of the package in the manufacturer's data.
