The box from Hasegawa holds the turbocharged Mitsubishi Lancer EX sedan completed with new plastic parts in the period style of the Japanese tuners: widened fenders, a different front bumper and auxiliary headlights. The body is cast in white plastic, so it will take light and bright shades as well.
The Lancer EX built on the rallying reputation the brand had made for itself with the previous generation. A turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, rear-wheel drive and austere angular shapes made it a favorite basis for the Japanese tuning scene, which prepared cars like this for night runs on mountain roads. That is exactly the atmosphere the set reconstructs.
Dry-fit the widened fenders first and only then glue them; the gap between them and the body is meant to be covered, but no step must arise. The auxiliary headlights come alive with a drop of clear coat poured into the reflector, which once dry creates the impression of glass. The two-color period stripes are easier to spray through a mask than to put together from decals. Leave the wheels until the very end, because the fender widening counts on the original track.
The kit comes raw: no paint, no putty and no glue.
