1:32 B-17G Flying Fortress Yellow Tails Insignia Paint Mask Set contains three sheets of masks for the marking of three particular Flying Fortresses of the Eighth Air Force.
Responsibility details are not available.
Three sheets of pre-cut shapes for the national insignia and identification marking of three particular bombers: Fuddy Duddy, Chuckie and D-Day Doll. The material is a thin masking tape, which after spraying peels off without deposits and with gentle handling will serve again. In a large scale the main advantage of masking stands out: a star sprayed directly onto the surface has no carrier film or visible boundary and will not crease on the rivets.
The formations of the Eighth Air Force over England distinguished their machines by pronounced color areas on the tail fins and at the wingtips, so that crews could find each other quickly in formation after takeoff. Yellow was among the most conspicuous, and on a model it is the element that decides the overall impression. The machines given are those that served with Bombardment Groups which took part in the daylight raids over the continent in the last phase of the war.
The masks deal with most of the elements of the marking, but not quite everything; according to the particular subject it is worth adding decals or cutting the small shapes to size. The painted nose motifs are not included and cannot be faithfully imitated by a mask; for those decals have to be reached for. Count on that when planning the build, so that it does not stop you halfway.
