The sheet from the Mark I brand contains the marking of the Philippine Air Force in two forms: in full colors and in a subdued, low-visibility rendition. It is precisely the combination of both on one sheet that is rare with this state and saves hunting for two separate sets.
The Philippine Air Force is among the oldest in South East Asia and its national insignia is based on the motif of the national flag with the sun and stars. Jet fighters of American manufacture from the 1950s, training and light combat types, transport aircraft and helicopters have taken their turn in its armament. The newer machines carry the marking in a gray, subdued rendition, which from a distance merges with the finish of the airframe. For a modeler that means the same type can be built in two completely different periods without having to hunt for two different sets of marking.
Low-visibility insignia have a small difference in brightness against the base, so their position is hard to check. It works well to work by side light, which casts a shadow onto the edge of the film, and to fine-tune the position before the water evaporates. The color variant, by contrast, is pronounced and an error in rotation shows on it at once; before applying it therefore pays to measure the distance from a fixed point on the airframe.
