Rectangles with rounded corners, 2 mm high and 2 to 2.9 mm wide, graded in steps of 0.1 mm from SX-Art. The finest of the trio in the family of rectangular masking shapes.
Responsibility details are not available.
The height stays at two millimeters, while the width goes from 2 mm to 2.9 mm always by one tenth. The first shape is therefore practically a rounded square, the last a rectangle of almost three to two. Eight intermediate steps lie between them.
Two millimeters of height mean roughly fourteen centimeters in reality in 1:72 scale, and just under ten in 1:48. Service caps, warning plates, instrument displays, small hatches on a wing or the rectangular windows of superstructures match that.
On a shape two millimeters across, one tenth is five percent of the dimension. When a mask overlaps by half a tenth on each side, a thin border of paint shows on the finished part. A fine scale solves that situation: instead of a compromise you pick the width that ends exactly on the engraved outline, and no border arises.
Shapes of this size are fond of clinging to a scalpel through static electricity. It works well to moisten the tip of the tweezers with your breath, pick the shape up by one edge and lay it down by one corner first. A wax pencil for setting small stones serves just as well, as the shape wraps itself onto its tip. Only then is the mask tipped down and pressed on.
