The height holds at four millimeters while the width grows from 4 mm to 4.9 mm by a tenth at a time. The series therefore starts with a rounded square and ends with a rectangle of roughly five to four. Ten shapes cover the range most of the larger access areas fall into.
In 1:35 scale four millimeters correspond to approximately fourteen centimeters in reality. The doors of tool boxes, battery covers, the rectangular windows of superstructures or panels with a maker's plate match that. In 1:12 and 1:16 scale you will put the same shape on a license plate or on the infill of a grille.
A larger shape also lets you use the rest of the sheet. Leave the sheet with its cut-out openings in place and spray through it: the result is a colored rectangle with a sharp edge, that is an area for lettering, a number or a panel in a different shade. It saves you going round a ruler with a brush.
The bigger the mask, the more easily an air bubble gets trapped under it. Offer the shape up by one edge first, therefore, keep the other side lifted and only then tip it down gradually. Trapped air would expand during drying and push the edge out.
