The single resin figure Commando Kieffer - Soldier 10 in 1:35 scale from the BlackSnake Model brand captures a machine gunner of the French naval commando of 1944.
Responsibility details are not available.
A single figure of a soldier of the 1st Naval Commando Fusilier Battalion, which the French brand BlackSnake Model lists as the crew of an MG 34 machine gun. The figure is conceived as the bearer of the squad's fire support, that is the man the others cover while he moves and supply with ammunition. The casting is produced by printing from photosensitive resin, and the package holds a single figure with no paint and no base.
The battalion was raised in Great Britain by Free France in the spring of 1942 and was commanded by Philippe Kieffer. His men went through the famous commando training center at Achnacarry in Scotland and wore the green beret. On the sixth of June 1944 they were the only Frenchmen to take part in the opening wave on Sword Beach. Their weapons were of British origin, so a German machine gun with them means a captured piece; that designation comes from the manufacturer's catalog for the figure, not from a photograph of the period.
Printed resin tends to be covered with a residue of print liquid, so the figure is washed in lukewarm water with a little detergent before the first coat and left to dry out properly. Traces of the supports are leveled with a sharp scalpel and fine sandpaper, and the joints are made with super glue. A base coat of primer reveals the places that still need smoothing.
The figure comes unassembled and unpainted; the package holds neither paints nor glue.
