A figure of a gunner at a 37 mm Bofors gun on a desert patrol vehicle, 1:35 scale. A resin casting capturing the man at the sight of the support weapon which the last vehicle of the patrol carried.
Responsibility details are not available.
The commanders of the desert patrols soon realized that a column of light vehicles stood no chance against an armored vehicle. The solution was to give the last vehicle of the patrol a gun, most often a Bofors in 37 mm caliber. The weapon was heavy, it took up half the cargo bed and the soldiers did not like it, but it was precisely this that was able to turn an ambush into an even fight. The figure represents the man who sat at its sight.
On its own this is a static figure, but in a pair with the loader an action arises: one aims, the other hands up. Add open crates of ammunition, a sun shade overhead and wheel tracks in the sand and the scene starts working even without a single explosion. A lone figure looks unfinished here; a pair, by contrast, explains on its own what is going on.
Before painting, the figure has to be washed in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the residues of mold release agent disappear. Priming with a thin layer is a duty with resin. Leave the skin weathered by the sun and the textiles washed out rather than richly colored. At the end it suits to add a light touch of dust on the footwear and the hems of the trouser legs, so that the figure blends with its base. Paints and a base are not enclosed.
