This 3D printed set replaces the whole block of the rear bulkhead including the seat in a model of the Japanese fighter A6M, in the variant where the seat is lowered to the lowest step. The Art Scale brand offers the same part in three versions according to the height of the seating, so the builder picks the position matching the scene he intends.
The seat was adjustable in height in several steps in the cockpit and the pilot adapted it both to his build and to the phase of the flight. On a model that has a practical consequence: with the seat lowered, little more than the helmet of a figure is visible behind a closed canopy, while the upper step suits machines captured with an open cockpit on the deck. The variant chosen therefore predetermines how the finished model will look.
The printing captures the profiling of the bulkhead, the riveting and the small molded details which do not make it into injection-molded plastic in this scale. The cockpit is the largest open area of a model in large scales, so the difference shows even without a magnifier and without detailed close-up photography.
