About product

3DF 1:48 AI Mk. IV radar – 3D-printed detail set

This is a detail accessory, not an aircraft kit. The set reproduces the British AI Mk. IV airborne interception radar by 3D printing: the external dipole antennas as well as the internal instrument units that were fitted to Second World War night fighters such as the Beaufighter and the Mosquito. The fine 3D print captures detail that is hard to reproduce in injection-molded plastic.

The real subject

The AI Mk. IV (Airborne Interception) was the first airborne radar put to practical use in air combat, and from 1941 it sharply improved the success of night fighters in intercepting bombers. Its arrow-shaped transmitting and receiving antennas on the wings and nose are unmistakable.

Usage tips

  • Wash the parts carefully to remove print resin residue and release them from the print supports.
  • They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); fit the thin antennas at the very end of the build.
  • Sand with respiratory protection.

Who the set is for

For advanced modelers building British night fighters in 1:48 scale who want faithful radar antennas and instruments.

This is an accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
