A 1:570 accessory for the Scharnhorst made up of a wooden deck covering and photo-etched parts raises the credibility of the finished ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
This upgrade package is aimed at a model of the German ship Scharnhorst reduced in the ratio 1:570. The name gives two components: a covering for the deck surfaces with wood grain and a photo-etched sheet. The ship herself is sold separately; this is an addition to her.
The Scharnhorst entered service at the beginning of 1939 and carried nine 28 cm guns in three three-barrel turrets. In June 1940 she took part together with her sister ship in sinking the British aircraft carrier Glorious, in the spring of 1941 she made a successful sortie into the Atlantic and in February 1942 she broke back through the English Channel to Germany. She spent her last year in Norwegian waters as a standing threat to the Arctic convoys. Her end came on 26 December 1943 in the battle off the North Cape.
Before you start, check the seating of the covering dry and the tuned edges; once it is laid there is nowhere to shift it. Attach the metal items with a minimum of glue, so that none is squeezed out onto the edges. Bring out the gaps between the rows right at the end, and only by suggesting them. Lighten the shade of the wood once it has dried with a light dry brush; the planks then stand out better against the dark gray of the superstructures.
