The T-80 is a Soviet main battle tank that differs from the other Soviet types in its powerplant: instead of a diesel engine it received a gas turbine. That gives it brisk acceleration and good mobility, but it is paid for with higher fuel consumption. The T-80U version is later and markedly reworked: it has the protection of the turret and the front of the hull arranged differently, stronger armament controlled by a modernized fire control system, and side skirts protecting the running gear. You will recognize it by the more angular outline of the turret with blocks of add-on protection and by the long barrel with a thermal sleeve.
The hull of the tank is over seven meters long, so a model in 1:35 scale comes out at roughly twenty centimeters without the barrel. That is enough room for details such as the blocks of add-on protection, the tools on the fenders or the grilles above the engine compartment to come out well. The list of parts and the recommended order of assembly are given in the instructions supplied with the kit.
Assemble the running gear on a flat surface and keep checking whether all the road wheels sit in one plane; running gear glued crooked cannot be put right once it is finished. Keep the turret and the hull separate while painting, otherwise an airbrush will not reach the space under the turret. Lay the base shade down in several thin layers, then bring the edges out with a lighter tone and darken the lower areas so that the model does not look flat. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
