The developmental full stop after the Italian line of tankettes. The L3/38 version received different suspension and a more modern machine gun, but it reached production at a time when the tankette's hour had passed. The model in 1:100 scale measures around three centimeters.
Responsibility details are not available.
With the last version the designers tried to put right what had been held most against the older tankettes. Leaf springs were replaced by torsion-bar suspension, thanks to which the ride stopped being so merciless, and a more modern machine gun found its way into the front wall. The dimensions and the armor could not be changed, however, so the result was still only a two-seat machine weighing around three tons.
Only a small number of this version reached Italian service. A more interesting fate met the export examples: the largest delivery headed for South America, where the tankettes served considerably longer than in Europe. In European fighting this type no longer played any role, and its place on the battlefield was taken by armored cars and light tanks.
Three centimeters of finished build are tempting to skimp on detail, yet it is precisely with tankettes that small things count. The running gear with its bogies, the riveted sides and the narrow vision slit for the driver make up the entire character of the vehicle. It is also worth noting that this type suits a comparative display case very well alongside the older versions, where the differences in the suspension are immediately apparent.
