The Jackal came about from the Supacat HMT chassis as an open patrol vehicle for the British Army. The crew sits high and unprotected, because what decided was not an armored box but the view, the range of fire and the ability to get through desert and a stony riverbed. The second series, designated the Jackal 2, received stronger armor of the floor, a higher payload and an altered gunner's station. The abbreviation HMWP hides the English designation for a high mobility weapon platform.
Off-road tires of this weight class settle noticeably under a full load. The compressed contact patch is wide, the sidewall of the tire bulges and the tread evens out at the point of contact. Series parts from a kit tend to be circular and the vehicle then seems to levitate on its base. Castings with a modeled deflection remove this contradiction and at the same time set the model a fraction of a millimeter lower, which is exactly the impression the replacement is made for.
Before gluing it is advisable to wash the parts and free them of the remains of the mold, as only then does the paint hold reliably. The fitting calls for attention: the deflected surface has to sit down level on the base, otherwise the vehicle stands crooked. It is good to leave the tread matte and dusty, while the sidewall of a tire close to the rim often has a shine from oil and rubbing.
The package holds the wheels, not the chassis or the whole machine they are fitted onto.
The replacement helps even when a machine stands on uneven ground. The compressed surface can be sanded at an angle, so that a wheel sits into a worn rut or into a stony hollow and no gap shows through between it and the terrain.
