A kit of the Mirage III and Mirage 5 delta with canards ahead of the wing in 1:144 scale, in versions for four users.
Responsibility details are not available.
A tailless delta behaves excellently at high speed, but on an approach at low speed it pays for it with a steep angle of attack and a long landing run. The solution was found only after years of service: a small horizontal surface was added ahead of the main wing, which adds lift at the front and shortens the takeoff run. Machines altered in this way can be told at first glance, and it is precisely to them that the package is devoted.
The designations in the name cover the reconnaissance version in Swiss service, Brazilian machines, the Belgian form of the 5 line and the South American 50. Each of those countries altered the machine in its own way and, in mountainous and tropical conditions, placed different demands on takeoff performance. The differences were reflected in details of the airframe, in the armament and in the color schemes, which range from desert tones to a gray finish with low contrast.
In a ratio of 1:144 a finished delta measures around ten centimeters in length. The canards are small parts which have to be fitted precisely symmetrically, otherwise the model optically hangs to one wing. It is recommended to glue them on only once the fuselage has dried and to check by looking from the front, not from above.
It is advisable to spray the camouflage thinly and in several coats. A sharp transition, which looks good at a large scale, is too hard here and breaks up the small shape of the airframe.
The length of service is remarkable as well. Some of the versions stated were still flying in the 1990s, that is more than three decades after the first deliveries, and the successive modernizations added up on them into a form the original designer would recognize only with difficulty.
