The P-51D is the best known version of the Mustang and at the same time the most numerous. You will know it by the teardrop canopy, which gave the pilot a view in every direction, and by the lowered spine of the fuselage behind the cockpit. The power comes from a twelve-cylinder V Merlin engine, built under license in the United States, together with a laminar-flow wing. It was precisely this pair that gave the aircraft speed and at the same time a range that, with auxiliary fuel tanks, stretched so far that the Mustang escorted bomber formations all the way to the target and back. The armament consisted of six 12.7 millimeter machine guns in the wing.
For builders of Second World War aircraft and for anyone who wants a machine in 1:48 in the display case, where the span comes out at roughly twenty-three centimeters. The extent of the package, the number of parts and the choice of markings are stated by the manufacturer in the instructions.
