The Auto Salon in Tokyo is the largest Japanese show of modified cars, and the HKS firm brings something to it every year that is meant to show how far its parts reach. In 2022 it was the second generation of the Toyota GR86 with a 2.4 liter flat-four, driven through the rear axle and built for exactly what is talked about most in Japan: handling in a corner, not top speed.
The combination of red, blue and black belongs to the tire brand ADVAN and Japanese fans recognize it at once. On white paint it creates a sharp contrast which works even better in a small scale than on the real car, because it becomes the main recognition mark of the whole model.
The body is cast from metal, completed with plastic parts, glazing and tires of a soft compound. The printing is tampo-applied, so the lettering and the racing graphics hold even after years in a display case. The model is finished and glued; nothing is assembled or glued on.
A whole garage fits into 1:64 on a single shelf, which is the main reason collectors of Japanese cars reach for it. This piece suits models from the world of tuning shows and will complete a row of cars with sponsor liveries.
