A paint from the IONIC line carried under the manufacturer's part number IONIC-0165 and the name Sword Grey. It is a gray shade whose name points to the blade of a sword. The name on its own does not settle how light or how cool the tone is, nor does it document any special surface effect, so compare the shade against the manufacturer's color chart.
A cool gray is rewarding on fantasy and historical subjects: on the armor and gear of figures, on weapons, on stone bases and on rubble in a diorama. It also works on modern vehicles, where gray tones handle faded surfaces, dust and shadow in deep seams. As a mid-saturated undercoat it sits well with dark glazes and with drybrushing toward the light, and serves just as well beneath later grime.
Stir the contents thoroughly before work, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Apply thin coats and add the next one only once the previous has dried; one heavy coat clogs the engraved seams and the fine surface relief. Choose the thinner and the ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging; for an airbrush it needs more thinning than for a brush. Try the shade on a test piece first, because a large area always looks lighter than a small sample. Rinse the tools right after work, as a dried film is considerably harder to remove.
The package contains the stated shade. The thinner, brushes and varnishes are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
