The picture of a French country road between the wars included a brick facade with the huge name of the business across the whole front, and a light van parked in front of it with the same name on its panels. Advertising then did not work through screens but through painted walls, enameled signs and delivery vehicles. The designation Splendid Hotel comes from exactly that period and exactly that world.
This scale has held for cars and light commercial vehicles since the 1950s, and it has a practical reason: the finished model is about eighteen centimeters long, so there is room in it for an engine with its plumbing, a dashboard with instruments and seats with stitching. Smaller scales have to simplify all of that. In a scene built around a building there is also room for brickwork, door reveals and a hanging sign, so you can work with the real texture of render.
A good diorama does not rest on a quantity of objects but on one readable situation. First lay out where the viewer will look from and where the vehicle will stand; add the small things only after that. The facade will take weathered render built up with thin glazes, the paving in front of the entrance looks better with dust drawn into the joints, and the whole is tied together by consistent lighting from one side. Keep the vehicle a shade lighter than the background, or it will optically soak into the building and the scene will lose its focus.
A scene with a building naturally has one viewing side, and that is what decides where to put it. Set it so that the viewer stands slightly to one side rather than straight in front of the facade; the front will then not hide the vehicle and depth will open up between the two elements. The back wall can be left rough, because nobody will see it anyway.
