A set of precisely shaped self-adhesive masks from Art Scale for a model of the British Fairey Gannet COD.4 carrier aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor decals but an aid to a clean paint job: the single-sided fit version, for covering the cabin glazing (and other parts if need be) while airbrushing or spraying from a can.

Use

• Lift the masks off the backing sheet and stick them accurately onto the glazing frames and the other surfaces intended.
• Apply the paint with an airbrush or a spray can in thin coats, so it does not creep underneath.
• Once it has dried, lift the masks off carefully and you get sharp transitions without hand-painting the lines.
• The single-sided version covers the visible side of the glazing; the inside is covered in the usual way.

The real subject

The Fairey Gannet COD.4 was the transport version of the British carrier aircraft (Carrier Onboard Delivery) meant for supplying ships at sea; it grew out of the anti-submarine and patrol variants of the Gannet with their distinctive coupled turboprop powerplant. The cabin glazing is a rewarding but laborious place to mask on the model.

For modelers who want to speed up and sharpen the masking of glazing and to avoid cutting tape. The masks are neither paint nor glue, and the model itself is not included in the package.
