A hand-held aid for sanding small parts. It fits in the palm, holds firmly and guides the hand more steadily than bare fingers when edges are cleaned up.
Responsibility details are not available.
Cleaning up gates and parting lines is work that runs to long minutes, and it is exactly where the hand tires fastest. A shaped handle spreads that load into the palm, so the pressure is not held by three fingers but by the whole arm. The result is a more even stroke and fewer of those unpleasant nicks that appear when the hand rocks at the end of a movement.
You reach for it right after nipping a part off the sprue, that is before filler and primer come into play. It serves just as well when leveling dried filler or when taking down an edge that is too sharp, where a file would remove more than is healthy.
In this brand's range it belongs to the group of sanding aids, where it is joined by a V-shaped sanding-paper holder and a larger set of holders. Among them it is the simplest entry into the line.
Change the abrasive before it clogs, as blunt paper tears not only at your time but at the surface of the plastic. Choose the grit in stages, from coarser to fine, and make the last strokes at right angles to the previous ones, so you can see where a scratch is still left. The exact dimensions and the way the abrasive is held are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
Aids of this kind tend to be the first thing forgotten when a workshop is equipped and at the same time the last thing anyone would then give up. Sanding comes into almost every model, and the difference between a cleanly taken-down edge and scuffed plastic shows only under a coat of paint, when it is too late to put right.
